Assignment 1

Running Web-based Experiments
Viewing Results in Excel

1. You got here. Good going

2. Get your system assignment from your instructor.

3. Click on "Constant Input Value Experiments"
Then choose the assigned system on that page. Then choose "Constant Input Function" experiment on the system's page.

4. Fill in your name, location & e-mail name
and then select a "Length of experiment (sec)" and value of the "Constant input value (%)"

5. Click on the button that says "Run Experiment"
When you do that, a new Web-browser window will be opened.
That new window will tell you the status of your experiment.

6. After the suggested time has elapsed,
click on one of the graph icons to view the results.

7. Look at the graphs. They will look something like this:

Sample Results pic is here
Notice how the output value starts off near zero at time=0, increases for a few seconds and then levels off, more-or-less, to a steady value, even though it may have some fluctuations.
(You will be asked to describe the graphs you see.)

8. Click on the Data-as-text Icon to look at the data.

9. Look at the data columns.
If you wish, you can save this data to your computer's disk
by choosing the "File" menu and choosing "Save as..." item
The reason you want to do this is so that you can use Excel
on your computer to examine the data.

10. Save the data and open Excel (or other spreadsheet program) and open the data file.
Make a plot of the Input and Output (on the y-axes) versus Time on the x-axis.
(Use Excel manuals if you need help)

11. Send an e-mail (report) within the next few days. (Click on "report" to get instructions.)
