Web Assignment 10 Proportional Controller Design
---
1. You got here. Good going! Today, it is modeling to design a proportional feedback controller.
2. We already have an Excel model built to do this. Download the model and load it into Excel.
3. Click on P-only Feedback Model |
4. Fill in the parameters for your system: system gain (K), dead time (to), first-order time constant (tau) for your chosen operating point. Then fill in the contoller specifications: Controller gain (Kc), initial set point (R-baseline), change of set point (delta-R) and time of change of set point. Choose a Kc small for overdamped and large for under-damped.
5. Find by trial and error what value of Kc gives you quarter decay response to the change in set point. Smith and Corripio have the Ziegler-Nichols formulas to give you the Kc that should give this response (page 225). The formula is Kc = tau/(K to)
6. Find by trial and error what value of Kc gives you sustained oscillation response to the change in set point. This is Kcu and should agree with what you got from the Bode Plot.
7. Find by trial and error what value of Kc gives you critical decay response to the change in set point.
8. Send an e-mail (report) within the next few days. (Click on "report" to get instructions.) . Send e-mail that describes the results: tables and graphs
