REFLECTION / MORNING PRAYER
THE LORD’S PRAYER: Our Father who art in
heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and
the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

CELEBRATION OF COMMUNION
-
(The Lord’s Table is open to all followers of
Jesus.)
INVITATION
TO COMMUNION
Christ invites to this
table all who profess the Christian faith, who endeavor to be at peace with
their neighbors, and who seek the mercy of God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O God, look within us
when we turn away and invite us to pause when we would rush on, for we would
come to you now, in spirit and in truth.
If we are busy watching others and criticizing their efforts to be
people of faith, making judgements, and setting our
own rules: Have mercy on us, O God.
Remind us of our humanness and then bring us your grace. In Christ’s name.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Because we cannot
imagine the dimensions of God’s grace, it is hard to believe that it flows
toward all who come in faith. But, the
wonder of this gift is ours today: We are forgiven.

Sunday, September 10th

fellowship. Refreshments will be served
following the gathering.
Sunday Evenings 5pm
Starting September 10, Jesus in the Gospels focuses on
the portraits of Jesus found in the four Gospels. The word in used in the title signals
that this study takes an approach different from the familiar “life and
teaching of Jesus” approach of reading stories and accounts of what Jesus said
and did in order to draw conclusions about their meaning and about who Jesus
was. This study looks at the way each
Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that
emerges in each of the Gospels.
There
is one book required for this study. So
if you are interested, please contact Paul by August 30th so he can
order a copy for you. Childcare
provided. Paul
Tuesday Mornings 10am starting September 12 we will be studying Max Lucado’s book, Come Thirsty.
“We all know what it is
like to be thirsty - both physically and spiritually. That longing to quench
your dry mouth can be powerful. But a dry heart - that’s unbearable.” In the
pages of this book, Max, leads us to the w-e-l-l that God provides for us¼¼From the Foreword of Come
Thirsty. You
can pick up a copy at any local bookstore. Read the first chapter, then come
and be refreshed. Coffee & Donuts provided.
Childcare provided. Paul
Tuesday evenings 7pm
starting September 12 we will be examining the Living
the Questions series.
Living
the Questions is a small group study which attempts to
re-imagine Christianity for a new millennium.
Each session is an immersion in one of the major themes of Christianity
that is being rethought as part of the radical reformation of basic Christian
doctrine. This is an exciting and challenging series. It allows us to grapple
with questions, without giving us simple answers.

next week’s Bridge for details.
Thinking in Ink...
Parking! Parking! Parking! Parking has been the
main issue in which the staff of First Christian has been involved. Because of
where we are located our parking spaces are a valuable commodity. Students need
a parking space and here we are. I thought I would go over our parking policy,
as an F.Y.I. to keep our congregation informed. During Monday through Friday,
8am-5pm students are allowed to park in the lower lot and the upper lot
directly behind Café Mi Aroma. The upper lot directly behind our main building
is reserved for members and Café Mi Aroma employees and customers during the
week. The lower corner lot is reserved for members of First Christian church
only. Of course members with Chalice stickers can park in any section of our
parking lot. Violators have been issued citations and some have even been
towed.
I also want to say
that the price of doing ministry is inconvenience.
So, let’s have a little patience, particularly on Sunday, as we try to make
sure there is parking for everyone. If you have a favorite spot, and it is
taken, please feel free to use my space or any of the staff’s space, we will
leave those open on Sundays.
Grace &
Peace,
STEWARDSHIP NEWS...
FCC is roughly 25%
behind our 2006 budgetary goal. If you
are behind on your pledge and could catch up it would be greatly
appreciated. If you believe in the
ministry of F.C.C. and are able to increase your giving this year, it would
also help us meet our budgetary needs for 2006.
Thank you,
Stewardship and
